Op-Ed: "The Real Vatican II Has Never Been Tried"
"We Need to Vatican II Harder": An Op-Ed by Bishop Sam Brown of the Diocese of Charlotte
An op-ed by Bishop Sam Brown of Charlotte, NC
You might think Vatican II failed, or backfired, or wasn’t a good idea. You might not like the outcome of the Church today versus 60 years ago.
You also might not like me after the decision I just made this week for the diocese of Charlotte to close down all but one of your Latin Masses.
Well, there was never anything wrong with the ideas of the council. There’s nothing wrong with me. The problem, you rebel, is with you. You’re also a bigot, probably, but we’re not going to talk about that today. We’ll save that for next week’s homily.
The problem is just that “the real Vatican II has never been tried.” The real council never had a chance to be implemented properly.
There were saboteurs, backstabbers, counter-revolutionaries, retrogrades, and all manner of conservatives, rightists, monarchists, Lefebvrists, neo-conservatives, and the worst of them, traditionalists, who sabotaged the glorious future Vatican II would have given us, if only we had tried to implement it a little harder.
Why don’t we just call all these people what they are? How about we call them, err, uhh, kulaks? Hmm… I like it. Well, I guess you are probably one of those people, so I guess I should call you a kulak. Hey… kulak! You’re a kulak. You’re the enemy of the synodal way. Kulak, KULAK, KULAK!
The problem with Vatican II is the same thing as what was wrong with Francis’s pontificate and all his various synods, it just wasn’t tried hard enough.
Vatican II, if it had really been tried, would have been a utopia. It just was never tried.
And once again it wasn’t tried because the rad-trads, beginning when our hero turned turncoat Paul VI, in Humanae Vitae, sabotaged the whole thing with his anti-spirit, anti-synodal, anti-conciliar, bigoted encyclical.
Rad-trads ruined our glorious future through John Paul II and Benedict’s pontificate until the glorious new day dawned when we all tried to do real Vatican II again under Pope St. Francis the First.
But then rad-trads ruined everything again when they refused to participate in Vatican II Part II: The Amazon Synod.
Oh well, they ruined it again, and once again real Vatican II was never tried.
That’s why I had to cancel their toy—your toy, you rebel kulak you— here in the Diocese of Charlotte by implementing Traditionis Custodes and ending all their Latin Masses but one and moving that last one to an undersea cave. It’s what Pope Francis, and well, the all-holy, all-perfect, all-enlightening, all-gracious, all-feminist, and all-synodal spirit of Vatican II would have wanted.
Diocese Banishes Latin Mass to Undersea Cave Accessible Only by Scuba Gear
Virginia Beach, VA - Bishop Sam Brown of the Diocese of Virginia Beach placed new restrictions on the celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass within his diocese today. While it will be allowed to continue once a week for now at one location within his dioce…
Oh, and I’m being very gracious to them. I could have moved it to Mars for all I care. Rad-trads should love me for how merciful I am.
Never fear. Once the rad-trads are truly crushed and defeated, Vatican II will rise again and finally, one day, my friends, will finally be implemented hard enough, like it was always meant to be.
Imagine that day, seize it, pray for it. Oh, and imagine it again, because that’s probably the closest we’ll ever get to doing it “right.”
But it would be easy if it weren’t for those rad-trads. Here’s how easy implementing “real Vatican II” would be if we could only have our way:
Yours in permanent revolution,
His Excellency and His Synodality
Bishop Sam Brown
Diocese of Charlotte, NC
Actually Paul VI in Humanae Vitae failed to defend the Catholic teaching that the procreation & education of children is the primary purpose of the conjugal act in marriage. He also guaranteed widespread rebellion againt the encyclical by having the commission established by John XXIII to study the issue (mainly that of the "pill") take about 7 years, a commission that should never have been put together in the first place. During those 7 years most Catholic couples were told by priests to "follow you conscience" rather than obey Catholic teaching on the matter.
Thanks for echoing Whoopi Goldberg on the fails of communism: “…If you say that this is how our culture is and then you send your child to a Swiss boarding school. You know, this is what happens with communism. It’s a great concept. On paper it makes perfect sense. But once you put a human being in power, it shifts. We saw it in Russia, we've seen it all around the world.”
